Author Spotlight: Suanne Laquer
Stories from Life
Writers writing about other writers is a pretty wonderful way to learn about a new-to-you author from people who appreciate and understand writing on an entirely different level. In fact I love it when authors fangirl/guy each other, because quite often they can express what they love so much better than I can. When I found out authors Suanne Laqueur and A.M. (Amanda) Johnson fangirled each other, I reached out to Amanda for help with Suanne’s author spotlight blog. And Amanda delivered. So here, in Amanda’s words (because her words are some of my favorite words on the planet), are all the reasons you should not wait to dive into Suanne’s books.
Q: How did you hear about/ find Suanne Laqueur’s books?
Amanda: A really good friend of mine had suggested I read An Exaltation of Larks. I started reading it right away, and realized very quickly this was next level. At that moment I was super overwhelmed with life stuff, so I had to pause, and then came back to later, after Charm had been released. I kicked myself for not reading EoL sooner. I fell in love with the rich and smart writing and to this day the series is still my favorite.
Q: What types of books/ romance subgenres do Suanne’s book incorporate?
Amanda: I think Suanne is amazing at combining literary fiction and romance in a way that I have never seen before. She is truly brilliant in her style and her ability to grab the reader and invest them into the character arc.
Q: What common themes do you find through her books?
Amanda: Her books deal with real life themes of humanity. Like jealousy, and love, and hope and despair. She paints reality with such a vivid brush with relatable and heartbreaking and healing accuracy.
Q: What do you like most about her books?
Amanda: The lush character development. Her characters feel so real. Charm of Finches is my top MM read of all time.
Q: What types of readers are most likely to be drawn to her books?
Amanda: I honestly think all readers will find love and value in these books. I know sometimes it’s nice to lose ourselves in a Rom-Com or a fun dirty read, but I would say it’s just as nice to lose yourself in Suanne’s words too, she weaves humor and sex with her profound storytelling and prose.
Q: What else should readers know about Suanne and her books?
Amanda: Suanne is such an amazing lady, she is witty as hell and just offers such a different perspective on romance writing as a whole and is one of the best people to meet at a signing!!
I got the chance to meet Suanne at Charm City Romanticon 2023, and she is just as amazing as she sounds. She’s warm, approachable, hilarious, and so freaking talented. Not only are her books beautifully written with stunning artistic covers, but she is a dedicated and talented crafter, and her table was covered with handcrafted bookmarks and baubles that the bookwyrm magpie in me was instantly drawn to.
I am so excited she is joining us again for Charm City Romanticon 2024. I cannot wait to hug her again!
