Protected Love
by Vikki Jay
Steam, Suspenseful, and Swoony
Vikki Jay has created another beautiful love story with wonderful elements of romantic suspense, forced proximity, opposites attract, age gap, and protector goodness in Protected Love. Jay brings her characters and their relationship with each other to life through great pacing, intimate situations, authentic banter, and genuine interactions with each other and the characters supporting them.
I love a grumpy, broody, hero. Especially one who knows he's falling hard, tries to fight it, but really doesn't. And boy, does Gavin try, but I fell hard for his toast marshmallow side, the side that ultimately wins when he proves just how all in he is. But of course, baggage. Gavin’s not the only one carrying it, either. Minnie has her share of secrets that keep her in the shadows. All of that, plus an intriguing and suspenseful external conflict build to the perfect amount of angst in the third act dark moment. And for someone who doesn't usually like angst, that's saying a lot.
Protected Love is a fantastic example of a bodyguard romance done right. The threat is valid, the feelings are justified, the unexpected twists and turns are augmented by serious steam. This is a great addition to Jay’s Kings World series, and can definitely be read as a standalone novel.
