There’s nothing quite so amazing as opening a book and finding an unexpected treasure, a true gem of a love story. Finding Mikayla by Samantha Christy is one of those books. Given a glow-up with a new cover, a new scene or two, and additional editing in 2023, this book is destined to be one of my favorite re-reads when I need a gripping love story of loss, recovery, and perseverance.
Christy builds so many wonderful twists into this novel, all centered around relatable characters in an unimaginable situation. But there’s nothing contrived or far-fetched about how it reads. The dialogue is smooth and authentic, the setting unnerving but not unrealistic, and the characters genuine and absolutely captivating.
Set in a post-EMP world, Finding Mikayla carries an element of sci-fi to the story, but it is NOT the story itself. It’s merely the perfect backdrop for a tale of fate and soulmates. Told in first person POV by the heroine, Mikayla, it carries all the warmth, depth, and details I love in a romance to and through a story I couldn’t get enough of.
