Author Spotlight: Jami Albright, Sexy-Swoony-Pee Your Pants Funny books
I know you’ve heard (read) me talk about the TikTok Time Suck effect, and how I eagerly and readily fall down that rabbit hole from time to time. And while a lot of it is frivolous simple pleasure enjoyment, the other more amazing part of it is finding someone you connect with because of their booktok account. And that is really my favorite thing about social media of all types.
One of those amazing connections appeared in hilarious form when I stumbled across Jami Albright’s December TT about her Brides on the Run romance novel series. The image of her in a bridal veil, lipstick smeared, leaves in her hair, look of panic on her face. OMD! I just kept scrolling through her videos!
Not only is Jami hilarious, but she is so freaking real. And she posts some pretty funny shit, that will seriously have you laughing until you cry. I adore her and how she puts herself in front of the camera, unabashedly herself, to promo her books, but also to share her life, her human side. With make-up, without make-up, props, in her car, hilarious duets, real reactions—they’re all there. And I am here for them!
What I haven’t done—YET, because they are next on my romcom TBR—is read Jami’s backlist. So, Stalkersister Susy stepped up to give us all the reader details on Jami’s awesome books.
Like many of us, Susy heard about Jami when a bookish friend recommended Running from a Rock Star. And finding a good romcom with a guarantee of laugh out loud moments is always a great way to spend a day.
Like me, Susy tends to love books where family is an important plot element, and that is one of the things that drew her to Jami’s books.
She also loves that Jami’s stories are filled with some twists and action, leaving the reader wanting more. Because, seriously, who doesn’t love a good runaway bride story with an inevitable HEA that takes the main characters by storm and leaves the reader with a happy heart. Oh, and an elevated heart rate from some smexxy steam, too!
I can tell from talking to other readers that Jami’s joy of family connections comes through loud and clear in her books. That kind of authenticity is a clear representation of Jami’s bond to her own family. And while Jami writes rom-coms, not all of life can be happy and joyful.
Jami and her family recently experienced a devastating loss when her sister lost her battle with cancer. I followed Jami and her sister’s journey through her various social media outlets, and cried along with her updates as well as celebrated the amazing parts of her sister’s life she shared with her readers.
If you would like to read more about that journey, and feel called to support her family, you can do that here: Support Joni's Hospice Journey
You can also donate to UT Southwestern Cancer Center in Joni McKinney Burrell’s name.
Jami has been very visible and honest about how her sister’s life, fight, and passing has affected her life as well. Her openness has been both heartbreaking and uplifting. In the beginning of October, Jami posted “A Love Letter to Indie Publishing and an Apology” on FB. In that post she indicated that she hasn’t written a word of fiction since February of 2022. Yet, she still feels that solid and beautiful connection to her readers, other writers, etc, and was able to do what she needed to for herself and her family because of the Indie publishing community.
I’ve read that post multiple times, and I cry every time. And they’re not all sad tears. Nope, they’re liquid reminders of the amazingness this community can offer. The support, the guidance, the love, the everything. Jami’s words resonate with me, her authenticity resonates with me, her humor her intention her perseverance her recognition of all the things that make her who she is. She’s a dedicated mom. She’s a faithful and devoted sister. She’s a talented and dedicated author. And she’s a seriously freaking amazing human.
I am so excited that I’ll get to meet Jami in March at Charm City Romanticon. We’ve communicated on-line several times, but at this point, I am holding out for that Jami hug. Because if she dishes those out the way she serves up humor and humanity, I have a feeling it’s gonna be pretty freaking epic.
