Author Spotlight: Hannah McBride

I readily admit to being a bit of a book cover junkie and buying books just because I love the cover. It’s why I own Hannah McBride’s Mad World series in paperbacks.  Because, seriously. Have you seen those covers?? They are freaking stunning! And they are an amazing reflection of the depth and intensity of the stories on the pages.

But Hannah’s eye for an exceptional cover is only one of the things that makes her an incredible author and a stellar human being. Because beyond being a writer, Hannah is a stealth mentor. She’s one of those wonderful people who see you working on something, or struggling with something, and quietly steps up at your side with encouragement, guidance, and a comforting hug when you need it most. Even when you don’t even know you need it.

I first met Hannah at Indies Invade Philly in 2021. She was a brand new author to me and I was completely drawn in by her covers. But it was her presence that kept me at her table. Hannah exudes a warmth that automatically makes you feel seen. With a bit of FAFO attitude thrown in. So, bonus!

I got to spend more time with Hannah at Charm City Romanticon 2023 and that time only confirmed what I already thought. Hannah is the real deal. Her presence on the panels was inescapable, drawing in readers and other authors with hilarious and gasp-worthy tales of on-line research for stories and plot bunny rabbit holes. And her smile and laugh are truly contagious. She is a true gem, and a delight to be around.

When I saw her again at SASS in Norfolk this year, I couldn’t wait to get a hug from her. And I got my hug, but also so much more. I sank into every minute we spent together, soaking up her wealth of knowledge about writing and events like a happy little sponge. The time flew by, filled with laughter as well as serious discussions, all of it valuable and needed, and appreciated, and enjoyed.

I’m so incredibly excited to see Hannah again, whether it’s at another event prior to the Charm City Romanticon (April 6, 2024) or at Turf Valley resort when we get to hang out amongst all those amazing Charmers.

Once again I reached out to St@lkersister Rhon for details on all the bookish goodness about Hannah.

Rhon found out about Hannah through one of my favorite author TBR enablers, Author Avery Maxwell. Yep the same Avery Maxwell who is the reason for at least 60 books on my tbr. Because let’s face it, when an author I love tells me to read someone’s books, I don’t question it. I just grab them and binge read. Apparently, Rhon does the same thing. Great minds and all.

Hannah has a new adult/college sports romantic suspense series (Mad World), a Young Adult Shifter PNR series (Blackwater Pack), and has been featured in multiple anthologies.  I love the variety in her books. And based on what Rhon told me about the dark element with strong themes of chosen family and enemies to lovers in her Mad World series, yeah, I know I’m gonna fall hard for those books. And I am excited to dive back into some PNR books, too. Plus, those covers are pretty stunning as well.

Rhon loves the way Hannah’s books draw you in and make you feel like part of the family. That’s a biggie for me, too. I always find I’m more likely to enjoy a series when I feel invested in the characters and their stories.

And then Rhon cemented my desire to read Hannah’s books when she said readers who enjoy well-developed romantic suspense, sports, and twisty plots will love Mad World. Yep, I’m in!  They are all on the short list to read this year, and I cannot freaking wait to dive in!
