The Rest is History
Simply Delightful, and Seriously Steamy
Ready for a fun, flirty, steamy story with the perfect helping of heart and depth? You’re going to want to steep yourself into The Rest is History by Sara Madderson.
Madderson has a beautifully easy writing style that helps readers connect with the characters. It's fluid, dynamic, effortless, authentic, and genuine. Plus the humor is seriously on point. The author understood the assignment and brought the lessons, along with beautiful banter and tear-jerking realism. The push and pull between the characters is exquisite, building tension, breaking down defenses, and culminating in a crowning achievement that kept me up way past bedtime.
Personally, I appreciated that once Elodie and Charlie got past their initial hang-ups—okay, well once Charlie got past it—they allowed themselves to get out of their own way and enjoy each other. And boy, do they enjoy each other. Phew! Hand me the ice water, please! They don't fight the connection or find "reasons" to avoid the relationship (workplace, etc). And things are perfectly ducky, until they aren’t. Hence the tears. But Madderson builds the perfect level of angst to bring out the depth of Elodie's character. And to prove that even the swooniest of swoony characters (*cough* Charlie) can have their damaged “are you kidding me” moments, and still make you fall for them over and over again.
In the end, what’s really delightful about this story is that it rings true. The main characters, their friends and family, the situations they create and navigate, they’re just written so beautifully realistic it all feels like a conversation with a friend rather than a jaunt into fiction.
