Q&A with Author Stella Moore
You know how sometimes you just click with people. Like you get a comfortable vibe from them that allows you to lean into their space without judgment. And you feel you can just be your authentic self around them. That’s kinda what happened when I met Stella Moore.
Stella joined in on the first Charmed Magic at Myrtle retreat I hosted in November of 2023. Invited by Golden Angel, I already knew she would fit in with our chaotic little group. Nope, I’d never met her, but when Golden Angel says I’m gonna love her friend, I tend to trust her. Because I do know Golden, and she is an exceptionally wonderful human.
Stella has this really beautiful energy about her. Her smile is contagious, her humor trending toward sarcastic and industry-appropriate inappropriate. And she’s not only willing to dive in and be a sounding board, but she’s a seriously solution-focused human. She’s generous with her time and her ideas, but also a wonderful ear when you need to shake a fist at the world.
And she’s an incredible author. Not just of steamy, sassy, kinky romance, but of the most unbelievably amazing blurbs ever! No, I’m not even kidding. Stella is the blurb queen, y’all! She can take a ho-hum synopsis and turn it into pure word bliss!
Now go take a gander at Stella’s backlist. She brings all the Daddy energy to the pages. With dominant heroes, seriously steamy spice and kink, and beautifully bratty heroines, there is something in her books for everyone. And her covers! Holy cow, the hotness!
Recently Stella has been getting a lot of attention for her series of HR reels. They are hilarious, ya’ll! Seriously. You have got to go watch them. Check them out here: https://www.instagram.com/author.stellam/
And then go grab her backlist, because her books are full of the same seggsy, snarky energy.
I cannot wait to see Stella at Charm City Romanticon and loved reading her Q&A answers. What a great way to get to know even more about someone I already adore.
How did you get started writing? - Like a lot of authors, I’ve always loved to read. But I never really “dreamed” of being an author because it felt so out of reach. Until I was reading some stories on a subscription site online and thought “I could do that”. So I wrote a story and submitted it to them and as it turned out they’d made the shift to actually publishing books on Amazon and that started my journey into being an author.
Where do you recommend a new reader start in your backlist? - It depends! If you are not into “Daddies” at all or if you’re not sure, I always recommend starting with Black Light: Worthy. Austin (the hero) has definite “Daddy vibes” though he doesn’t use that honorific. And with the plus sized rep, it’s definitely a fan favorite.
If you’re more curious about “the Daddy thing” or you already know you love it, I would start with Ruin Me, Daddy.
Do you have a favorite/most memorable scene/ part in a novel you've written? - Oh, wow. That’s a tough one. Every book has a scene that always sticks with me, so it’s hard to choose. There is a scene in Daddy’s Arms though where the hero rewards his wife by sharing her with his brother for a night. It’s definitely a fan favorite and I’ve never written anything else like it.
Is there a part of your career as an author you thought was going to be difficult but has wound up being really wonderful? - Connecting with people. When I first started, I had incredibly painful social anxiety, pretty much crippling in fact. I would freeze up whenever someone approached my table and forget trying to make friends LOL. But over the years the anxiety has eased a lot, though it’s always there a bit, and now I love meeting new people!
Are there specific themes, tropes, or subgenres you’re more drawn to as an author, reader, or audiobook listener? - As a reader I LOVE a good enemies to lovers romance, though I really struggle to write it myself. As an author, I really love to write those hurt/comfort stories. Showing two people who have their own traumas, coming together to help heal each other, especially through the use of kink.
What is your favorite part about being an author? - Telling stories. And when readers tell me how much a story resonated with them. Romance is about so much more than just spicy times, and having the opportunity to really delve into the human experience the way I get to as an author is genuinely what I love the most.
What do you like to read/listen to? Any favorite authors you want to send a shout-out to? - Nora Roberts is my all time favorite romance author. For kinky romance, my go-tos are Maren Smith and Golden Angel.
Is there someone(s) who’s been influential in your life as it relates to your career? - My friends Golden Angel and Rayanna Jamison. I can say without a doubt I wouldn’t be the author or woman I am today without them. Rayanna helped me really get my start as a Daddy author, and she remains one of my biggest cheerleaders (even when she’s tearing my books apart during editing LOL) and Golden has given me more advice and guidance than I could ever repay. I love them both so much and I hope I can pay their kindness and support forward to other authors.
How have your life experiences influenced your career as an author? - I don’t think there’s really any part of my career that hasn’t been influenced, especially in my books. Every book I’ve written has pieces of me, my family, my friends in it.
