Q&A with Author Elizabella Baker
One of the most amazing things about being part of the Romancelandia community is meeting so many wonderful authors and hearing their stories of how they started writing. Some have been writing for decades. Others recognize their writing careers in terms of months. But regardless of how long they’ve been writing, the subgenres they focus their writing on, or the number of books they’ve published, the friendships and connections overlap and interweave into a beautiful tapestry of support and camaraderie.
I first “met” Elizabella through the Protector Romance Reader Group on Facebook. We connected because we had several mutual friends in common and after watching her chat about her books live in the group, I started following her and added her books to my TBR. Because, if you know me even a little bit, you know I absolutely love protector romances.
Then I got to meet Elizabella in real life this past April when she assisted Riley Edwards at Charm City Romanticon. And yeah, I fangirled over both of them. Because they both so incredibly kind and incredibly talented.
Next year I get to fangirl over them both again, but their own tables. Because Elizabella and Riley will both be signing authors at CCR2025. And I cannot wait to spend more time with both of them.
I loved getting to know Elizabella even more through this Q&A and am looking forward to diving into her books
How did you get started writing?
It was on my life bucket list. During the pandemic I had spare time and figured why not. There was nothing else I could really do on the list. Best decision I ever made.
Where do you recommend a new reader start in your backlist?
Charlie Team or Blackguard Security
Do you have a favorite/most memorable scene/ part in a novel you've written?
The apartment scene between Trista and Falcon. Those two have so much tension that it was bound to be electric when it finally came to a head.
Is there a part of your career as an author you thought was going to be difficult but has wound up being really wonderful?
Ah nope. Everything but the writing part is hard. I’m just fortunate to have a great team to help me.
Are there specific themes, tropes, or subgenres you’re more drawn to as an author, reader, or listener?
As an author it’s definitely romantic suspense. I need action. As a reader it depends on my mood. Sports and mafia seem to be at the top right now though.
What is your favorite part about being an author?
Getting to meet my readers and talking with them. Plus sharing some behind the scenes details on my weekly LIVEs in my reader group.
What do you like to read/listen to? Any favorite authors you want to send a shout-out to?
Again mood reader so that can change at any point but Bella Matthews is at the top right now.
Is there someone(s) who’s been influential in your life as it relates to your career?
Riley Edwards and Janice Whiteaker. Both have allowed me to ask them endless questions and have provided a wealth of knowledge.
How have your life experiences influenced your career as an author?
I’m a firefighter who married a police officer. Sarcasm is our love language and it’s easy for me to tie that into the books that I write. The women I write are headstrong because that’s who I am as a person. My husband doesn’t read my books (he doesn’t read at all) but I can guarantee if you read him any scene between the MMC and the FMC he would tell you it’s spot on to what it would be like between us.
