Celebrating Pride. Today. This Month. And All Damn Year.
If you’re new here, before reading this you should know I am a mom of 2 lgbtq+ spawns. They are out and proud and happy for me to share that info about them, so I do. We celebrate pride every day around here. Partly by simply being. But also by filling our lives and space with things that represent them. Sometimes that’s a new flag or room decor, a pin, a new outfit, new make-up… The spawns are creative in their ways of showing their pride, so we are by association as well.
While we joke about pride being an all the time thing here, and I've seen posts reminding people they can read lgbtq+ books any time of the year, I also see and appreciate the value in a month that celebrates and advocates for awareness by encouraging people to try reading something new. If reading a book or author as a result of a monthly challenge, book club, or awareness post gets you to dive down the lgbtqia rabbit hole and read those books year round, mission accomplished.
And since I like to make sure people have someplace to start when I ask if they’ve ever read a specific subgenre of romance, today I’m bringing you some of my favorites. I will also provide the caveat that these are MM (male male) romance novels, because within the subgenre of lgbtq+ romance, those are the stories I gravitate to. Many include bisexuality, demisexuality, and pansexuality as well, which is also pretty wonderful as that diversity of representation is often new on many readers’ radars.
To keep things from becoming overwhelming, I’m just going to include 5 books for you. These are MM stories and are not necessarily written by lgbtq+ authors. That’s a discussion set for another day. I’d love to know if you’ve read any yet. And if not, and you decide to dive into any or all of them, please let me know what you think.
