Author Spotlight: PJ Fiala, Writer of Strong Heroines & Sexy Heroes
Finding fangirls to fangirl with over amazing authors is one of my favorite parts of Romancelandia. And while I’d like to be able to say I’ve read the entire backlist of every author I love, I can’t. Mainly because I’ve only been reading romance novels for 2 and a half years. And there are so many amazing freaking authors. I have been extremely fortunate to meet some truly amazing readers in my quest to find truly amazing authors, and they are always happy to be TBR enablers for me.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be spotlighting several authors on my TBR, all of whom are attending authors for Charm City Romanticon, but whose books I have only scratched the surface of. So, like a good hypegirl, I’ve called in my hypegirl squad for help, and enlisted the brains and bookshelves of my reader buddies.
One of those readers is Marie Evans. And she fangirls PJ Fiala hard! I’ve read some of PJ’s books, but not as many as Marie, so I asked her all the questions I know I’d want the answers to when finding a new author to read.
Like many readers, me and Julie Collier included, Marie discovered PJ and her books through the Protector Romance Reader Group (PRRG) on Facebook. PRRG is a favorite hangout of mine because of the variety of authors in the group, and the willingness of other readers to share what they love about the authors they love. Julie organized the group to give romantic suspense & protector romance fans and authors a place to mingle and chat, and when PJ’s books were being brought up by readers on the regular, Julie reached out and invited her to come join the fun.
Now, getting back to those questions about all the things I want to know about an author, when I asked Marie what common things readers will find in PJ’s books, she was quick to say: “Service members who are trying to find their way after the military and still be able to serve and protect. In her later books either the H or h are wounded veterans. Also, they are trying to stop sex/human traffickers.”
Marie loves that PJ’s “characters are so relatable and, absolutely loves how she gives them a new purpose in life after war.” Plus, Marie “love[s] the combination of action/suspense and all the feels of a swoon worthy romance.”
“Anyone who enjoys romantic suspense with a military theme, speaking specifically about Ghost and Raptor series,” is bound to enjoy reading PJ’s books. .
Julie and I have had several conversations about her life as a PA in Romancelandia, and I know from those that Julie absolutely loves working with PJ in that professional capacity. She told me, “Before I had even read my first PJ book, I knew PJ was an awesome person. PJ Fiala is a caring and hardworking author. She’s organized and is always looking to level up her business. She makes her readers feel important and appreciated. She makes me feel a part of her team.”
I’m going to echo those sentiments based on my interactions and time spent with PJ. She has never hesitated to jump in to help with a fundraiser, a celebration, or any interaction within her ability to participate. When Julie and I attended Knockout Bookbash in Louisville in July, PJ reached out to us our first day there, invited us to dinner, and made us feel comfortable and welcome when our little introverted selves probably would have just ordered door dash.
PJ is one of those authors who goes so beautifully far beyond the page to make her readers feels seen and valued, and that makes me want to read her books even more. I am so excited that PJ will be joining us as an attending author at Charm City Romanticon in March 2023. The fangirling will be in full effect!
