Author Spotlight: Megyn Ward, Smart Dirty Romance
So many amazing authors and books, so little time!! Gaah! Ok, who’s working on those 36 hour days for me? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
I know I’m not alone here with that thought. And while I love reading all the things, I know I can’t read all of them at once. So I’ve reached out to another of my book besties for help with this week’s author spotlight.
Rhon House is not only a reader, she’s a writer and author PA. And one of my top TBR enablers. Trust me, Audrey II eats really well thanks to Rhon. And several of my top TBR reads, courtesy of Rhon, are written by the amazing Megyn Ward.
Rhon first found Megyn during her spring of 2020 pandemic return to romance. Megyn’s book Pushing Patrick, was her gateway read. The book was so steamy and so well written, Rhon was hooked. And we all know, when we find that author that sinks their hook into our minds and emotions, we sink our claws and teeth into their backlists.
There’s always something that pulls us into an author’s universe, and for Rhon it was Megyn’s character development. There’s something truly addictive about a well-developed character, and Rhon found Megyn’s to be stellar. We all know those characters who resonate with us, and Rhon loves that from the first chapter you are pulled into their orbit and they don’t let you go. Those are the kinds of characters I love! The ones with so much depth you can tell from the beginning they are going to carve out a permanent home in your heart.
Rhon and I share a love of books that have found or chosen family as a central theme. And one of the reasons Megyn’s books are so high on my TBR is because that theme plays a big part in Megyn’s stories. Contemporary romance with chosen family chaos, a little angst and plenty of steam? Yes, please! I am so ready to fall in love with all of her characters.
I think one of the coolest things I learned about Megyn from Rhon is that while she writes steamy contemporary romance, she also authors award winning Suspense Thrillers and Crime Thrillers under the pen name Maegan Beaumont. In fact, Rhon loved both Megyn and Maegan before she knew they were the same woman. That is pretty damn cool. I mean, I love my romance novels, but sometimes a girl’s gotta stray from the path back to her thriller roots and now I have another author in that genre to backlist binge.
As you can probably tell if you’ve been reading my blogs, the indie publishing world is a truly unique place. Growing up, if you wanted to communicate with an author you wrote a letter, sent it snail mail, and if you were lucky their publishing house sent you an autographed photo with a stock letter and signature. Now, readers and authors communicate on the daily through social media, get together at bookish events, and form lasting friendships that travel beyond the limits of the bound pages.
I know Rhon is grateful for her friendship with Megyn, and considers her a great author, but also a really amazing human being who she’s glad to call her a friend.
I’m grateful for Rhon’s friendship, guidance, and definitely her assistance with getting the word about Megyn out to all of you amazing Bookwyrms. And I’m truly excited that Megyn will be joining us as an attending author at Charm City Romanticon in March 2023. The fangirling will be in full effect!
