Author Spotlight: Ember Davis
Telling Sexy Stories with Heart
I loved Ember Davis’s stories before I met her at Charm City Romanticon in March of 2023. And I love them even more having met her. Because Ember is one of those people who exudes a warmth that translates to the words she writes and the stories she tells.
Ember was one of those beautifully lucky finds who I stumbled across while I was looking for Christmas romance stories to read as part of a reading challenge in 2021. I tended to stray away from novellas because I had read a few that left me wanting so much more, but one kept coming across my feed over and over: A Very Pierced Christmas. I figured if it was showing up that often, there had to be something to it, right? Boy, was there ever!
I was drawn into A Very Pierced Christmas very quickly, and floored by how much character detail and story she worked into nine chapters and two epilogues. The story had serious heat, beautiful sentiment, and wonderfully developed characters. Plus, she worked some of the characters from her other series into the story without making me feel lost, but definitely leaving me wanting to get to know them more. And I loved that I could get deep into my feels with the characters in Pierced without feeling like I was missing a ton of backstory. It just felt cozy, with fantastic energy, just enough angst to keep me guessing for a bit, then a beautiful HEA.
The next book I read by Ember was Built Dad Bod Tough, part of the collaborative Dad Bod series. Because, come on now, who doesn’t love a series about real men who really love their women. And I was on a novella kick because of Ember, who finally convinced me that a novella could have everything I needed in a condensed little package of written joy. And again, she drew me in right away, the characters were relatable and real, and the tiny tie-in to her other series grabbed my interest, but didn’t detract from the actual story she was telling. It was fantastic!
One of the things I love about Ember is the variety in her writing. Not just her style, but the subjects she immerses herself and readers in. Ember writes everything from grumpy pierced mechanics, to complicated tattoo artists, to intense alpha protectors, to small-town dreamers, and everything in between. Her novellas are part of numerous collaborative series, and make for wonderful quick reads when you’re not quite ready for that full series novel binge.
But she’s got those, too! Ember has several full-length novel series available for readers, some complete, some still in process. And some interconnect to her other series and novellas, building a rich and deep world of characters and stories a reader can get seriously happily lost in.
Another thing I love about Ember is how real her characters are, especially her heroines. They have beautiful emotional depth, with vulnerabilities and strengths that pull the reader into their presence. And I love how her heroes exude strength, but also have their own insecurities that make them protective but also doting—think cinnamon roll, not alphahole.
I still reach for one of Ember’s novellas when I need a quick pick-me-up story. And I have all of her full-length novels on my TBR too.
I can’t wait to see Ember again at CCR2024. And I can’t wait to see who’s story she brings us next.
Just the facts:
First book I read by Ember: A Very Pierced Christmas
What I love most about her books: Sassy and smart female characters who come across as real and genuine- people I want to be friends with. Strong, alpha heroes with a deep protective streak who love and respect their women. Interconnected storylines in her novellas that also stand completely on their own.
Fave book by Ember: A Very Pierced Christmas (so far)
Fave character: Rowan from A Very Pierced Christmas
Fave cover: King of Pain & Petals I love the combination of images on this cover. Plus, morally gray hero. Yeah, this one is next on my novella reading list
