Author Spotlight: Blye Donovan
Romantic Suspense, Small-town Style
If you haven’t hopped onto Facebook and joined the Shades of Romance Reader Group, you are definitely missing out on some great times with a group of really wonderful authors. If you’ve been following my spotlight blogs, you’re already met two of them: Charissa Gracyk and Angela Taylor. And today you get to meet another one of the amazing women I know and love, collectively referred to as The Shaders.
I “met” Charissa first, and through her found Angela, Blye, and Nina. And when I finally met them in real life at Shameless Book Con in Orlando, it became clear just how incredibly special these ladies are. Not only are they talented authors, all in the very early stages of their incredible and promising careers, but they are stellar humans. I am seriously lucky to call them my friends.
I already know Blye is an incredible author, writing wonderful small-town romance. I also know I look forward to each new release from her. And I can’t wait to hug her at Charm City Romanticon in 2024.
Now you all get to know more about Blye through the words of her Shades Sister, Nina Bloom. And I know you’re going to want to grab Blye’s backlist, follow her on her socials, and get to know her better once you read about her here, too. So, without further ado, Blye Donovan according to Nina Bloom:
I first met Blye in August of 2020. I was an aspiring author and was welcomed to be an admin for a new reader group—Shades of Romance. Blye already had the first book in her Rolling Brook Series published, Hunted at Whiteford Farm. That was my first introduction to Blye’s world of romantic suspense and the heart throbbing Redland Brothers. I absolutely fell in love with Rolling Brook and the people who live there.
Although the Rolling Brook Series is considered romantic suspense, each book is uniquely different from the next. The second book in the series is Gifts From A Stalker. The tension from a forbidden love takes center stage, but Blye layers it with Dillion’s heart wrenching story and Lydia’s haunted past.
Just when I think Blye has written her best work yet, she releases another book blowing me away. I remember staying up all night long to read Small Town Frame Up (Book 3 in the series) and being so inspired by the kicka$$ heroine, Daisy. Her aspirations are so relatable and the reader will root for her right away. The sexual tension between the hero and heroine is off the charts and you’ll be fanning yourself when they finally come together.
The next book, Condemned by Secrets, begins with a new character settling down in Rolling Brook. Right off the bat the heroine, Anna shows her backbone, but also has an endearing quality about her. If you love skittles, you’ll love the hero, Luther Monroe. He’s a swoony charmer that always has something to say to make a girl quiver. This book also has an element of historical buildings and preservation that I appreciated.
The last book in the series and my favorite (if I had to pick one) is Marked as Queen of Hearts. It’s a bit darker and angstier than her others, but this is an absolute page turner. Tori and Rafe have a wounded past and their pain is palpable. When they prevail over the demons of their past, you can’t help but be overcome with emotion. The romance between these second chance characters is powerful, add in the threat of a serial killer and you have a book that will give you a hangover, with characters that will stay with you for a long time.
Blye has a way of making the reader feel like they are in the story. Her settings are crisp and her characters are authentic. You will laugh, you will cry, you will blush and you will bite your nails-to-the-quick trying to figure out who the culprit is.
Blye Donovan is one of my favorite authors of all time. I’m so blessed that I get to work with such an incredible person and writer. She is, without a doubt, one of the kindest, most genuine and generous people you’ll ever meet. So, don’t be shy when you see her at Charm City because she is fun to talk to.
If you haven’t read Blye yet, prepare to take a week off of your life and immerse yourself in the town of Rolling Brook. I promise you will want to plow through this series without coming up for air.
