The Worst Wedding Date
Some Things Matter
Like the ability to look past who you thought you should be to allow yourself to become who you are.
Like understanding that judgments are often constructs of our own issues and don't accurately reflect who someone else is.
Like being able to take control and know you're supported by others you never expected to have your back.
Like picking up a romcom by one of your favorite authors and knowing it's so much deeper than the subgenre implies.
Pippa Grant has a way of weaving the most absurd and engaging humor into tears and squeals and complex profound acknowledgments of who people really are. And she's done it again in The Worst Wedding Date.
Of course there's the typical angst of an opposites-attract enemies-to-lovers romcom. And the quirky characters we've come to love from Pippa Grant. And adorable floofs to get attached to. And a wonderful reconnection and grand gesture. And the steam that leaves you reaching for a cold glass of water. The perfect blend of side characters. And a plot that's just this side of ridiculous to be absolutely believable.
But there's also so much beautiful personal chaos to sink into, witty pearls of wisdom, and thoroughly developed characters you really wish were your closest friends.
The Worst Wedding Date turned out to be one of the best reads this year for me. And while it's a standalone now, I hope it doesn't stay that way. Because this world Pippa has created is bright and beautiful and fun and hilarious. And I know so many of us who could use so much more of it in our lives.
