No Simple Lie

Oh, Hudson. We Told You So ;-)

If you haven’t met the McQuaid brothers from Calloway Creek, you are really missing out. And now that their series is complete, you really have no reason not to dive in. If you’ve been reading them all along, I know you’re missing them just as much as I am. Because Samantha Christy created one heck of a trilogy with these bad boys. And wrapping it up with Hudson and Dakota’s HEA in No Simple Lie was definitely a treat.

As always, Christy brings all the feels. The perfect set-up, the twists you never see coming, the emotional investment, the angst, the steam—it’s all there. And of course, there’s Tucker McQuaid, everyone’s favorite meddling grandfather. And boy, does he set the ball rolling on an incredible love story.

The range and depth of emotions in Christy’s characters always hits home, but Dakota’s story is one that will definitely have you reaching for tissues, and shaking your fist with righteous indignation. And Hudson, yeah, you’re gonna fall for him. Hard. Told in first person POV, Dakota and Hudson’s inner monologues are truly fantastic, bringing another level of depth and power to their emotions and interactions. The banter between both main characters, as well as with and among their supporting characters is sharp, smart, and authentic. And it all lends to a beautiful build-up to their relationship and their perfect HEA.

Of course, this is a Samantha Christy novel, so be ready for the angst. It’s there, and it’s intense. Blended with solid pacing and crisp dialogue, it all works to pull the reader into the story and power them through all of the ups and downs the characters experience. And just when you think you know exactly what’s going to happen… yeah, forget it. You have no idea. And it’s so freaking fantastic and mind-blowing, it will be worth every gasp, sob, snicker, and snortlaugh.

I am truly sad to see this series end. Christy took three brothers who readers were conditioned to dislike (ok, maybe even hate) from her Calloway Brothers trilogy and made them some of the most redeemable and loved characters on my bookshelf. I can’t wait to see where she takes us next!
