Holy Wow! What a way to dive into the romance novel pool and make a huge impression! Heart Thief, the debut novel by Wren Charles, is intense, passionate, and incredibly steamy. With characters who jump off the page in full chaotic glory, this is a rock star romance with all the trappings of the glorified lifestyle.
This is definitely not an “everyone” romance. Marcus and Evie are deeply conflicted characters, and the rock star life is in full effect, impacting both of them throughout the story. Brazen and loud and in your face in one scene, the rollercoaster ride they're on provides incredibly heartfelt moments throughout as well. And the drama! Whoa! So much drama. Surrounded by a cast of characters who influence and indulge them, the whirlwind of their lives creates so many incredible situations for them to navigate.
I adore Evie. Fiercely independent and loyal, she has such beautifully nuanced elements of vulnerability that bring her right into your heart.
And Marcus… Holy. Filthy. Rockstar. He’s not everyone’s bad boy, but if you love them rough, yeah, you’re gonna love him. And hate him. And it’s glorious.
I’d be remiss if I didn't mention Xander. And James. And Marshall. And now that I’ve mentioned them, I’m going to just say I dare you not to love them too.
I strongly advise readers to heed the trigger warnings, including alcohol and drug abuse, as well as mentions of off-page suicide and miscarriage. There’s also some very intense other woman drama and if you’re sensitive to stories with cheating, this is not the tale for you. Heart Thief ends in a bit of a cliffhanger, so be prepared for that as well.
