DUKE: Faking the Play (The Boston Tomcats Book 3)
By Kayley Loring and Connor Crais
Sir Kicky McFrownypants For The Win!
I will never ever not read a Kayley Loring and Connor Crais novel. I look forward to every single one, and Duke: Faking the Play did not disappoint. This book made me laugh, and even cry a bit, but most of all, it held my heart and smile captive and refused to let go. I didn't want to stop reading. And I didn’t want it to end! Fortunately there are two bonus epilogues available after you devour Duke and Millie’s story.
Let’s talk main characters, shall we? They’re wonderful. Simply fabulously wonderful. Kayley and Connor employ fantastic character development through the use of witty and hilarious descriptions and introspections. Their language and word choice are spot on with impeccable comedic timing but also a ton of heart and depth. I really enjoy and appreciate how real and honest the characters are while still being larger than life. And the nicknames! Plus, so many fun little quirks within the characters’ interactions and inner narratives that bring the fun and poke a little humor at the world the characters live in (she wrote… wrotily??- IYKYK)
Now, it wouldn’t be a Kayley Loring book without her trademark family group texts with hilarious autocorrects. And innuendo. And some inadvertently deep thoughts. So, yep, readers get those, too. And visits from favorite characters from other books in the series. And supporting characters who play a big part in the entire tale while still not overwhelming the reader or the main characters with too much information.
Oh, and Drunk Duke is devastatingly wonderful.
And Sad Millie is stunningly sassy and spectacular.
Yes, Duke can be read as a standalone, but honestly, live the full joy of this series and start at the beginning. Or start with Duke and then go back and binge the series, including reading Duke again.
