A Forever Love
Deeply Emotional and Truly Beautiful
A Forever Love by Vikki Jay is a beautifully emotional journey of discovery, forgiveness, and understanding. Book four in Jay’s Kings World series, it’s a next generation tale of recognizing that a forever love has balance and changes over time. And while the relationship between Carter and Merida is one readers of Jay’s world have seen inklings of before, I was not prepared for the depth and intensity Jay brought to their story. Yes, it’s a swoony friends to lovers, age-gap, billionaire romance, but it’s so much more.
Multiple subplots entwine to bring several layers of suspense together with elements of jealousy, deep friendships, and familial bonds. Merida and Carter’s HEA is not the clean-cut, happy, sunshine and flowers story their history might imply. Jay rallies all of the troops for this one, as the main characters navigate not only their relationship, but the threads that tie their families together. And could ultimately tear them apart.
Together, Mere and Carter are a force to be reckoned with. But it takes them a while, and some heavy truths to get there. Once they do, their intensity is incredible. Yes, there’s steam, but there’s also so much sensuality and passion and strength. The banter between them is lovely, mixed with humor and heat, bringing out their personalities more and more through every action and interaction.
Jay touches on some heavy topics of depression, loss, and yearning, but does so with care and sensitivity. And while Carter and Merida are quite young when they originally meet, Jay establishes very quickly that the timeline of the series has progressed and both characters are adults when their love story begins.
I highly recommend reading A Forever Love in series order. There are multiple supporting characters essential to the plot, and many are best understood by reading their stories first.
